Clarence Rodney "Rod" O'Neal
Saturday, July 10, 2021

It is with great regret we announce the passing of Life Member and Long-Standing Fire Police Clarence “Rod” O’Neal. Rod joined with Hartly in 1992 after coming from the Clayton Volunteer Fire Company where he also progressed through the ranks ultimately serving as President of the company during their 100th Anniversary. During his tenure at Hartly, Rod was a long standing Fire Police and the instrumental Chair of IT progressing our capabilities from the delayed dial-up systems of the 90’s to a multi-computer server networking system. Rod was also a Past President of the KVCFA where he was head of the Scholarship Committee for numerous years, helping pave the way for future Fire/EMS leaders to obtain a higher education. Finally he was active on several committees within the DVFA. Rod served with the DVFA for 50 years. Rod was a man of great respect and integrity. He greeted every person with a welcoming smile and always gave an honest answer even during some of the most difficult circumstances. It is said that to be dedicated a person has a “feeling of very strong support or loyalty to someone or something”. It is certainly clear that Rod was the epitome of dedication though he countless and selfless service within the company, county, and state. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time. Rest Easy Rod, We Will Take It From Here. Services will be on Tuesday, July 13th, 2021. Viewing will be at Faries Funeral home in Smyrna, DE from 10 am-12 pm with services to follow.
